A curious look at the moths (and other wildlife)in the Upwey area of Weymouth in Dorset. Forays further afield will be represented. This blog is not intended as an official species recording tool. Any corrections to species' identifications will be gratefully received, as will any comments.
Do you think the weather has an effect on the type of moths caught in the trap? Carry on the good work...

excellent pictures ....so do you think toilet paper rolls work as well as egg boxes? As I am thinking of starting a moth trap and have a back pile of rolls but no egg boxes!

Egg boxes are certainly better as they offer more possibility for hiding from the light. They also have a better texture I think. As for the weather it has a huge effect though not as you might think. Strong wind, heavy rainlow temperatures for the time of year are the worst factors. Light drizzle is sometimes OK - this surprised me at first - I think an increase in humidity without heavy rain(even if it means mist or light drizzle) is good for numbers.
